HOW TEACHERS CAN DEVELOP TOLERANCE FOR STUDENTS’ TROUBLESOME BEHAVIOUR

HOW TEACHERS CAN DEVELOP TOLERANCE FOR STUDENTS’ TROUBLESOME BEHAVIOUR
Behavior means an action or a response that an animal does voluntary or involuntary, voluntary actions are those that we consciously decide to perform such as reading, walking, cutting grass or playing. Involuntary actions occur without or deliberate control or are carried out without us being aware.(Lema 1982).                                                                                                                                                   Behavior on the other hand is any activity that can be observed, recorded and measured. It includes all sorts of things that organisms do and what people say or write,(Katunzi,1999).
MAJOR AREAS OF STUDYING BEHAVIOUR
Behavior is a very broad phenomenon, no one individual, or book, can give in detail all the aspects related to behavior, thus the study of behavior is divided into four broad areas.
Physical area
This area covers the physical body and how it relates to behavior, no one exists without a body, A person’s name is very much associated with him/her that is to say the body human genetic makeup and physical appearance makes us similar as human being but each different and unique as an individual person.
Cognitive area
The second is related to the neutral process that enables us to think, reason, solve problems, and learn the language. All our deliberate behavior originated from this area, the intellectual skill that we posses make us able to utilize any other organisms. We have ability to acquire knowledge and skills, store than and retrieve them later.
Emotions
Emotions include anger, fear, love, happiness and sadness among other feelings we experience every time, Emotional states can be a mixture of unpleasant and pleasant feelings, these are so complex that sometimes we experience feelings that we are unable to explain them to other people.
Environments
Environment is all that is not us but surrounds us, all that are outside of our behavior, these factors can either be physical or social. The world and all that is in it with the exception of fellow human beings and social institution form our physical environment.
Tolerance is the willing to accept especially opinion or behavior that you not agree with or people who are not like you (Oxford advanced learners dictionary seventh edition pg 1615:2005)
Tolerance is the ability to suffer, especially pain, difficult condition without being harmed (oxford advanced learners dictionary seventh edition pg.1615:2005)
WAYS ON HOW THE TEACHERS CAN DEVELOP TOLERANCE FOR STUDENT TROUBLESOME BEHAVIOUR
By having close relationship with the troublesome student, here the teacher should act as a counselor through talking with the students in a friendly relationship which will promote love among the teacher and student, as the result the gap between the teacher and the student can be reduced and the academic performance of the student can be higher than the previous one.
Therefore the students can change his or her characters completely and become a good student who listens, the teacher, parent at all people in the community at large.
“The relationship that the counselor establishes with the student should be warm and positive, the students need to feel that he is accepted and that he has a real friend” (Okech 82:1991).
By developing the spirit of fair treatment to the student who have the problem through calling them and discuss with them their behavioral problems by using polite language so that the students should understand their punishment.
A teacher should have a larger range of knowledge and should constantly, develop himself or herself completely help others, that is knowing a little of everything to be able to guide an refer an individual counsels to the right persons and institutions who can help him with his problems.
Put the aggressive students need more interventions within the positive context of learning something everyone else is learning, this can influence the relationship between the teacher and the student to become strong and happier.
Show the students that you are the advocate for his success, students with serious behavior problems may need extra encouragement to feed supported, begin interactions with the students by acknowledging some strength, go out of your way to catch his succeeding.
Teachers  should develop the attitude of continuous process of guiding the students         ,individual differences should be considered although human being are similar in many aspects, guidance and counseling is the responsibility of parents in the home and that of teachers in school.
“Guidance should begin with childhood at home and continue throughout education, this means that guidance starts with the parents and continue with the society and the teacher”(Okech 10:1991)
The teacher should develop the attitude of giving the students the mechanism to recognize and prevent the outbursts of violent behavior before they happen, while the intensity and specificity for interventions may differ certain teacher strategies can help build and reinforce positive behavior in all children.
By giving students a common language with which to express their feelings and communicate with peers and grown-ups, teachers should develop the attitude of giving students a common language which will facilitate the interactions between the teachers and schools administration as the result the common understanding should be achieved to be obtained for sample student should be taught on how to ask questions in a proper disciplined manner and proper direction by using good language which express their feelings.
By fostering value of empathy, caring, respect and self awareness to the students, this may lead to the students who have bad behavior in schools to behave in a right direction because of the value that will be fostered by the teacher for example when the teacher have the tendency of respecting students, caring and showing love to the students, students will love too teacher thus academic goals will be achieved.
Teacher should develop the attitude of creating school environment which can foster students to learn positive behavior or skills, much of the time teachers use on disciplining or “cleaning up” after a range of attack, often with little long- term benefit ,certainly discipline plays a role in violence prevention, but it should be employed as a teaching  mechanism ,not just a means  of maintaining the behavior ,comprehensive prevention strategies and an intervention process that emphasizes problem solving, not punishment and facilitate collaboration between staff, moms and dads and children should be implemented.
Develop a problem solving, team approach with other teacher and administrators, teacher should be interested to seek the solution of the problem that is giving the student by cooperating with teachers and school administration in general. This will minimize the problem of misbehavior of the students and thus the goals of higher academic performance of the results can be achieved.
By congratulating students when teachers see the making a good choice, this means that  not always that the students who are troublesome are doing bad things that are not required, but sometimes but sometimes they do good things, therefore the positive behavior of the students by congratulating  student and showing the sense of happiness to them, this will influence to the emergence of happier relationship between teachers and students, As academic matters can be achieved.
“Reward in moral training is given to make ethically
And socially acceptable behavior, rewards such as
Praise and approval are useful means of making children
Learn that social acceptable behavior is satisfying” ( Katunzi 14: 1999)
By addressing the underlying issue and help the student reframe his objectives, for example learning to master the task instead of avoiding it this means that before taking any punishment the teacher should use his or her time to address the behavioral problems of the students as well as its consequences of that behavior way to handle the behavioral problem in a right way without disturbing and confusing the students.
Determine the circumstance that trigger out bursts, identifying a pattern of when and how the students acts out helps define the factors that trigger the behavior and subsequently, suggests strategies that will most effectively correct it.
By asking mother and father to identify triggers and precursors behaviors that they have observed and recommend copying strategies that work at home.
By asking the school psychologist to develop uniform criteria for assessing behavior, this will help to minimize inconsistencies in referral due to different behavior to clearances among staff.
By building trust with students by being accessible and encouraging,  the teacher should always use the encouraging words to their troublesome students and also teachers should have higher expectation to their students especially for doing good things in national level and international level, the tendency of the teachers to build the trust to their students will lead the students to have the sense of self awareness which will results to the minimization behavioral problem and the relationship  between teachers and students will be good and happier which promote the conducive environment of learning.
“Since the counselors responsibility is the welfare of the student, A sense of trust should develop between him and the student thus passing the way for the development of mutual confidence”. (Okech 82: 1991)
Normalizing social learning enables students to understand that violent classmates need extra help from the teacher to learn how to cope with frustration.
Violent behavior is often linked to a psychiatric diagnosis example bipolar disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, toilette syndrome, as pager’s disorder depression, work with the mothers and fathers and school psychologist to identify the cause as well as triggers for the behavior and to determine if more through psychiatric evaluation is warranted.
Engage father and mother as partners’ cooperation of the students parents is essential for changing difficult behavior, the student is almost certainly exhibition similar behavior at home, mother and father themselves may be worried or frustrated.
Designate an office or special place as a “time out room” for students who need to regain safe control; teacher should make sure students know where it is and what adult will be there to help them. This is often the counselor’s office or your office.
By laying out an action plan for students to help themselves and each other’s behave appropriately, teacher should cooperate with the school administrate and parent by setting out the action plan that will help the troublesome students to adjust their behavior and behave in a good manner and have the behavior that is required by all people in the school environment and in the community at large.
Teacher should develop the behavior of helping the student to build communication and self control skills, thus will facilitate the interaction between the teacher and the students to be easy and thus student may adopt the positive behavior from the teacher as the results the happier relationship between teachers and students can be found and the performance of the students in schools can be advanced and becoming higher and higher.
                                             CONCLUSION
Teachers can develop tolerance for students’ troublesome behavior by showing the students that the teacher is advocate for his success, by reinforcing behavioral values and desired skills, and by showing close relationship between teachers and students.
