Every education institution needs to have a professional counselor
A counselor is a definitive guide for anyone who is considering   professional counseling as a career, from high school students up through adults of any age .Also, A Counselor is trained mental health professional who aims to create a confidential relationship with people in distress ,so they can safety express their thoughts and feeling and make sense of painful or confusing experiences(Kenned and Sarah ,2002:16)
However, a professional counselor is a highly trained individual who is able to use a different range of counseling approaches with their client.(Nassar 2011:300) .
There are different types of counselors such as
(i)Marriage and family counselor
(ii)School counselor
(iii)Mental health counselor
(iv)Legal counselor
(v)Rehabilitation counselor
(vi)Substance abuse counselor  
The need for a professional counselor in any educational institution involves the following activities which are performed by a counselor ,
Helps the students in short term treatment for particular problems ,such as difficulties in educational issues ,Also  a professional counselor gives an advice to the learners on various things such as academics matters vocational issues and personal relationships.
However ,helps the clients to see things more clearly possible from a different views point, This can enable the clients to focus an feelings ,experience or behavior with a goal to facilitate positive change (Mariani ,2009:27) 
Also gives guidance on personal or psychological problems .This helps learner with psychological problems to and  have a positive thinking towards educational goals(Wallace ,1998:3)
He or she is responsible with the social and emotional well being of children’s especially in primary education ,counseling is one of the number of interventions which should be offered as an part of “stepped- care”  .(Crouch1997:34).
Encourage all students to make use of the resources available to them, including professional support, discussions forms  and opportunities for collegial networking and provincial and national functions.
Moreover, a professional counselor must help the students on how to cope with cultural ,linguistic and disability issues related to students performance and results.
Must be able to identifies appropriate accommodation helps the students to understand what helps them to feel positive or anxious ,as well as accepting the strong and weak point of each students.
However, a professional counselor in a education institution must deal with adolescent whenever seeking to explore     career  optional and difficulties when they wants to copy with their biological changes in their bodies .
Participate in the identification and planning process with regard to the unmeant needs of children and youth in the school
