EFFECT OF GENDER OPPRESSION,DISCRIMINATION AND STERCOTYPING
(a).Poor performance
–most pupils especially girls generally perform poorly in academic wise because
there is no human touch in the textbooks .Education issues carried in the text
books are supposed to be equated with people’s lives .None use of human names
and pictures in presentation of matter alienating the subject from normal human
.
(b).Inferiority
complex-women feel or tend inferior due to customs which make a gape
between men and women e.g when they discovered that the work they have done and
the production they have got is for the men only and the women are less
concerned.
(c).Community and
family attitudes toward work roles –
(i).The participation of women in some works e.g politics is
minimal when compared to men.
(ii).Women play dominant role in agriculture but policies
regulating agriculture favour men .
(iii).Parent often demand more household from girls than
boys.
(iv).Stereotypes limit girls /women’s expectation and lower
their achievement motivation.
(v).Other materials (written materials) rarely focus on
information for / or about women or they relegate this information to special
sections of magazines, newspapers and courses of study .
(vi).Policies on lateness, absenteeism and pregnancy
discriminate more against girls (at school ) because of their expected
responbilities.
