The Beijing world conference on
women empowerment deliberated several
issues. List them down, out of the list choose two and discuss their
achievements in the context of Tanzania government
The Beijing world conference was the fourth
World conference held in 1995 in Beijing China aimed at promoting gender
equality and women empowerment. This became successful after various effort on
previous conferences starting with Mexico city conference in 1975 ,the
Copenhagen 1980 and Nairobi conference in 1985 attetend with 15000
representatives from NGO’S which based
on birth of global feminism then the Beijing conference was held. A conference
deliberated on several issues as the new chapter to struggle for gender
equality based on the following issues:-
Ø Women
and poverty.
Ø Education
and training of women
Ø Women
and health
Ø Violence
against women
Ø Women
and economy
Ø Women
in power and decision making
Ø Institutional mechanism for the advancement of women
Ø Human
rights of women
Ø Women
and the media
Ø Women
and the environment
Ø The
girl child
The
achievement of some declarations in some of issues deliberated in Beijing
conference in context of Tanzania Government includes the following which shows
the achievement towards the expected goals:-
Women in power and decision making, The
Tanzania government has changed regulations and taken action to include women
in decision making by passing bill to increase the special seats in the Nation
parliament and in local government women have given a chance to hold different
authorities, as well as holding public meeting, workshop and seminal.
Secondly, Education and training of
women; on this fact Tanzania has achieved to introduce a
system of ‘education for all’ this aimed at promoting women ability for self
dependence. To fullfil this a brief paper an attempt was made to respond to the
education for all (EFA) Global monitoring report ‘Education for all is the
world on track.
This
present report focused on Tanzania only on how education for all is propagated
therefore Tanzania believes in equality and also human right to education. A
belief has been expounded in the constitution of the ruling part and that of
the United Republic of Tanzania of 1977.
Not only the above but also Tanzania has
signed the International conventions concerning the right to ‘Education for
all’ these are reflected in the National constitution and other policy
documents such as Education and training policy (ETP) Of 1995 which is further
translated in the detailed strategies, plans and programmes in basic education.
One would therefore expect Tanzania to be in a strong position for promoting
education for all which focuses on women and girl child.
